Frequently Asked Questions - Frisch Answers Quickly

Diese Seite gibt es auch auf deutsch.

On this page I want to give you some answers to questions I was asked several times by e-mail. So maybe you find something that is interesting for you, too.

When did you start with this web site and why did you make it?

I started with this web project in april 1997. At that time my company had not much work, so I was at home all day. So I decided to use this extra time to learn something new: HTML. For this, I used a good (german) HTML guide (SelfHTML) and I guess I learned it quite well.

At first I did not even imagine that my web site would become "something bigger", but soon I got many positive e-mails. That encouraged me to spend more time on this hobby.

How about the rights of the people on the photos?

Most people on the photos of my web site have given me their photos for publishing, or I have asked them if they agree.

By the way: In some special cases it might not be necessary to have the permission of a person on a published photo. The following quotation shows that - unfortunately I have it only in german. It is a quotation from "Handbuch des Journalismus", S. 249f., von Wolf Schneider und Paul-Josef Raue, Rowohlt Verlag 1998, Taschenausgabe, ISBN 3-499-60434-5:

  1. zur Zeitgeschichte zählen, also Politiker, Funktionäre, Sportler, Künstler, eben alle, die sich bewußt in der Öffentlichkeit bewegen (»absolute Personen der Zeitgeschichte«);
  2. für eine kurze Zeit zur Zeitgeschichte zählen, etwa als Beteiligte in einem Gerichtsprozeß, als Büttenredner beim Karneval oder Leiterin eines Kindergartens, der vom Bürgermeister eröffnet wird (»relative Personen der Zeitgeschichte«);
  3. in einer Gruppe öffentlich auftreten, sei es beim Winterschlußverkauf am Wühltisch, bei einer Demonstration, auf den Stehplätzen im Stadion (Dokument des Zeitgeschehens);
  4. zufällig herumstehen bei der Aufnahme einer Landschaft oder einer denkmalgeschützten Häuserfront in der Stadt (»Beiwerk zur Landschaft«);
  5. für die Abbildung bezahlt werden;
  6. der Abbildung zustimmen, wobei es ausreicht, daß sie bei einer Straßenumfrage um eine Stellungnahme gebeten werden und der Fotograf sie dabei unübersehbar aufnimmt.

I guess these informations (unfortunately only in german) are useful for all webmasters of german homepages and for all who like to make photos and show them others. That's the reason why I quoted them here.

Can I use your photos also for my own homepage?

I really was asked this question a few times. It was also a surprise to me... :-)

It's logic that you have to distinguish between photos that others gave to me and those photos that I made on my own. Let's start with those pictures that others left to me for use on my web site. These photos were left to me only for a very special purpose (my web site), and so every other use should only be made with permission of that person who let me put them on my page. Of course, I have no influence if you get this permission or not.

Now to the photos that I took on my own, what means I have the rights for these pictures: Also these can only used elsewhere in special cases: First is, that with the picture also a link to my web site will be published (link to the page with the table of contents or a direct link to the page where the picture is). And second: Before publishing you inform me (for example by e-mail) about the use of my picture and you ask me for permission. In case I refuse this permission (or withdraw it later), then the picture has to be removed immediately.

As I don't consider my photos as "holy", usually I will give this permission, if the concerning home page ist not distasteful to me.

If you need several pictures in print quality, please contact me by e-mail.
